I'm just starting to play SH3 and I am wondering how is the AI in this game, especially as it relates to destroyers coming after you, and ships changing course once you announce your presence?

I had a patrol boat circle around me when I was submerged, with my periscope up, and sometimes it would shoot at me, and sometimes it would shoot 90 degrees away from me. Nor did it ever drop any depth charges though it had racks. So I surfaced and went at it with my deck gun, and after hitting it about 8 times, it finally exploded. I would think one shell would obliterate a little patrol boat.

As well, I have not been depth charged yet or pinged with ASDIC. Are there pings in this game?

Anyway, how do you find the enemy AI?
