My views diverge a bit from what you usually get on this board.

For some of the questions I disagreed with all the options, so I wrote in my own.

1. What would you consider to be your political affiliation?
C. Independent - I usually vote Dem, but I refuse to bind myself to any party's ideology. I think what I want to think.

2. Which direction do you lean toward politically?
A. Left

3. Do you believe that a law abiding American Citizen has the right to defend himself his home, his property and his family - and protect them from life threatening harm whoever the aggressor may be?
A. Yes. For that matter, I think anybody in any country has that right.

4. Do you believe that a law abiding American Citizen has the right to use deadly force to defend his home, his property and his family etc from life threatening harm whoever the aggressor may be?
B. No - as in "Not Always." There are cases where I think deadly force would be legitimate - namely cases where somebody is threatening to physically harm you or a loved one and deadly force is the one and only way to stop them. But I don't believe that you have the right to kill somebody for trying to steal your stereo when there are other options.

5. Do you believe that a law abiding American Citizen with no criminal record has the right to own simple revolver type pistols?
A. Yes, although I would never own one myself. I don't trust myself enough to wield that sort of power.

6. Do you believe that a law abiding American Citizen with no criminal record has the right to own Semi-Automatic type hand guns?
A. Yes

7. Do you believe that a law abiding American Citizen with no criminal record has the right to own simple bolt action rifles or black powder muskets?
A. Yes, if my understanding that these are mostly owned for historical reasons is correct.

8. Do you believe that a law abiding American Citizen with no criminal record has the right to own Semi-Automatic rifles?
B. No - Semi-automatic handguns are plenty for self-defense.

9. Do you believe that a law abiding American Citizen with no criminal record has the right to own fully automatic weapons?
B. No - See above.

10. United States was born because a well armed population was able to organize and fight against a tyrannical and oppressive government. Do you believe that the 2nd amendment to the constitution was created so that future generations would be capable of fighting tyranny and oppression within the United States Government should it ever occur in the future?
E. Other. If I can use a line-item veto, I agree with D before the comma. I personally think that the 2nd Amendment is obsolete, but I wouldn't support eliminating it because I consider the Bill of Rights to be sacred. I do think that the 2nd Amendment wouldn't be a problem for a true tyrant.

11. Which statement do you most agree with on the subject of social security reform?
C. Social Security should be around for many years to come but needs some minor improvements. - Maybe a bit more than minor improvements, but not a complete overhaul.

12. Which statement do you most agree with on the subject of Welfare?
E. Other. I think welfare is fundamentally good, but it needs big reforms. Our system certainly isn't the best in the world, but Answer D is too harsh for me to agree with.

13. Which statement do you most agree with on the subject of foreign policy?
E. Other. I strongly disagree with all those statements. B is closest to my view, but there are times when the US needs to intervene with force. However, that doesn't mean policing the world. I think the last 8 years have shown what a bad idea that is.

14. Which statement do you agree with most on the subject of illegal immigration?
D. let the current illegals stay, but beef up policies which will prevent future border incursions. - With the obvious addition that only illegals who have been productive members of our society should be allowed to stay.

15. With regards to the government bail out packages, which statement to you agree with most?
B. No Bail outs without severe penalties or interest! Allowing congressional bailouts sets a precedent in which other businesses, banks and industry sectors will expect to exploit bailout policies. - The bailouts were unfortunate but necessary. However, the government needs to ensure that this doesn't become a regular thing.

16. With regards to the credit crisis, which statement do you agree with most?
C. Both A and B

17. With regards to equality in America, which statement do you agree with most?
D. Other. B should be what we are aiming for, but we're not there in today's America. A lot of where you end up depends on where you started from. Each person's final success is a combination of where they started from and their own efforts. I do NOT believe that equality of outcome should be a goal.

18. How would you rate your overall confidence in the congress on a scale of 1 to 10? (1 being no confidence at all, 10 being fully confident)
4 - If you mean the institution of Congress, not the current Congress.

19. How would you rate your overall confidence in the office of the president as a whole (not necessarily the current admin) but the office as a whole on a scale of 1-10 (1 being no confidence at all, 10 being fully confident)
5

20. Which statement best describes how you feel about the "party rift"? (the divide between Democrats and Republicans)
F. Other. It bothers me some, but it's an inevitable part of our democracy. I think the American party divide is less of a problem than party divides in other countries because neither American party enforces party discipline (i.e. you don't get kicked out of the party for voting against them).

21. Do you feel that a state has the right to seceed from the Union if the majority of that states population feel it is the right move for their state to make? (65% or greater majority vote)
B. No - it's not in the Constitution. That said, there are some states I wouldn't mind losing.
