I did some figurin last year. Including all Federal taxes, state taxes, and county taxes and NOT counting sales taxes, I paid more than 60% of my income in taxes.
Frankly it does not bother me all that much. Not only do I still earn a good living (not great) but I garner a lot of benefits from the various Federal, state, and county services.
Are my taxes high, of course they are. Do I wish my taxes were lower, sure I do. But what some people don't recognize is what we get from our taxes. The services, while imperfect, to provide considerable improvement to my life and my society.
Could these programs be improved? Of course they can!
Are there programs that I fund that I don't garner benefits? Of course there are!
On the whole, I have a pretty good life here in America. And a lot of that good life comes from the infrastructures and public services.
So yeah, I bitch about taxes, but on the whole, I am doing pretty well.
