I guess the time is not right for a world wide competition as only one player (Coreykill) signed up for what I thought would be a well attended and exciting event. Also the fact that only 1 player ( Sharkley) made a comment reinforces the fact that this appears to be a dead issue. His postive remarks did give me hope that this would be the start of what has been missing in the Silent Hunter world....competition! I was thinking in the beginning we would have 50+ players interested, but I was wrong. In trying to figure out why, I have come to the following conclusions:
1. Some players who have tried to connect on MP keep CTD because they are not aware of the issues that have to be addressed using MP ie; everyone using the same mods, port configuration, etc. These are matters that can be easily sorted out using Teamspeak, Ventrillo, etc.
2. Some players do not have Broadband.
3. Some players have older puters which would not support a MP map.
4. Others are heavily into their careers and do not have the time.
5. The many modders are very busy modding and for that we are thankful.
6. I have thought long and hard on the format to make it as fair as possible, but maybe there are some things about it players do not like.
7. Noobs thinking they do not know how to play that well yet and thinking what is the use of joining. IMHO it would be a great learning experience and you would learn from watching the old salts here.
8. It could be a language barrier.
9. Players who do not have GWX 3.0 (what are you waiting for) and just have vanilla or a combination of the many mods out there and do not realize or know how to go about making multiple installations of SH3.
10. Could be that just the word "competition" is not to their liking and having to come to grips that they are are not as good a captain as they think they are.
I am sure I have left out other "reasons" and I hope I do not come across as bitter. Its just another idea that has died on the vine. I do believe however that the time will come when the idea of a contest will come about to pit your skills as captain against other kaleuns.
