In the real world, spotting a sub at 150 feet would be tough. Being able to see it so clearly that you could tell which way it was going and how deep it was would be just as difficult. Spotting the sub, figuring where to place your weapons and actually being able to hit it should be almost impossible. Of course, that wouldn't apply to a P-3 with ASW Torpedoes.

I remember seeing a photo of a U-Boat at periscope depth taken from a B-24 just before killing it. The caption said that the weather and sea conditions had to be just right or they would have missed it.

The one bad thing that I have noticed so far is transiting with high time compression on the surface. On the way home, I found my self suddenly in the middle of a convoy, surrounded by escorts and promptly damaged so badly that diving was a one way trip down. Thankfully I had saved the game before leaving the patrol area. Gotta be careful until getting past Midway.
