I use realistic tactics as much as the game allows.I now play on 100% realism settings, played with everything on for a while except disable external view, liked having the view but didnt use it for tactical reasons.Getting depth charged without external view is rather interesting.I miss the external view during non combat times since you can only go to conning tower, control room and bridge.

I use the TDC to fire my torpedos as the skippers did, none of these specialized attack methods etc.My results are great.I too have learned tactics from reading sub books and use them in Sh 4.I never could get an accurate number of hits using the spread knob, so i do what i learn from Richard O Kane's books.Lets say have a large freighter and plan to fire 3 torpedos at it....ill place the crosshairs on center of target...enter bearing range into TDC, fire, then move crosshairs over the forward goalpost...enter new bearing, fire two, move crosshairs on other part of the ship, fire 3.Torpedos are aimed at three different points and if you solution is correct, should hit at the exact point of aim.Works fine and is historically accurate.

To me playing as close to how it really was makes the SH 4 much more enjoyable.Running TMO 1.7
