i have never modded sounds but on skwasjers s3d website he has many tutorials explaining how to do things with s3d.
im just posting this showing the way new modders can answer their own questions like those you just asked.
lets take the catagory your working on, "sounds"
look at mods that change sounds and see what files they contain and what folders they are in (that tells you where to look for the sound your interested in). then look in that file path in your game files and see "all" the sound files there. chances are the sound your looking for is in there. most files names tip you off to what they are but a few you might have to ask about or just play them and hear what they are to find the one you need.
