I have been slamin the sea trying to make it to the end of the war in my own DID lose no crew and bring home tonnage. Right now I am into May '44, with original '39 crew sailing out of Bourdeaux. Tonnage is down now although I am wacking some RAF scouts (12 on this patrol) but with only a 24 tons so far. By tonight in real life, if alive, the boat will head home. Helga awaits. This is my 2nd DID and the last one I lost my boat in Jan.44 when I answered the phone and the game was not paused and I was creamed when RAF radar dedected my snorkle. (never agian). Overall tonnage is fairly high even playing conservative. I would have more abandon if I arrived in the middle of a 'wolfpack attack'. That would be a great sight and allow for some good tactics. But alone I find myself steeering clear of well armed picket boats on convoy satisfied to pick off singles and doubles - my goal is my crew's safety and the safety of my boat and making it to the end. Why? I do not know.
