It's the internnal law of the sea-you have to help with whatever's available. That's my understanding anyway.
I remember a few years back a bunch of solo round the world yatchies got into a lot of trouble riding the roaring forties south of Australia. A big storm (suprise! suprise!) capsized at least one boat.
Regardless that these adventurers deliberately put themselves in harm's way the RAN went 3000 km in very rough weather and saved the guy. They put themselves at risk to haul some clown's arse out of a fire he felt complled to sit in.
I was all for letting him enjoy his little act of derring do alone in a sinking yatch, but that's the law of the sea for you.
