Just wanted to let you all know that I reloaded the save at the point where I'd left off & I got away with it!  The game loaded alright and I was able to proceed with the attack. Sank the 2,000 ton passenger/cargo ship & left the V&W searching fruitlessly for me. I hope that some relative of that f*cking crackhead was still aboard when she went down!  I kept going & saved again only after I was in the next grid square; well away from anything.
