"Doppelbild-Entfernungs- und Zielkurswinkelschätzer" = "Double-image-Range and AOB estimator"
They actually had a pretty nifty solution to get AOB too. Once range was measured similar to the 'american way', they rotated the mechanism 90 degrees on its side, and after setting known length they rotated a dial to put the bow of one image on the stern of the other, then the value of AOB could be read off from it. The Ujagd tools and OLCGui (in Sh3 but it's been ported over to Sh4 aswel I think) by Joegrundman, Hitman and Onelifecrisis is a very good representation of the whole process, except only relying on one rendered view.
If only Ubisoft had incorporated this 90 degree rotation into the Atlantic Theater Operations. But alas ... incorporating cool stuff doesn't help sales. Or does it?
