I don't have external view enabled, but I *HAVE* seen them in my periscope.
When raising the scope one time to check whether a sound contact was within visual range, I happened to see a mine just off the port bow. I almost dropped a load in my lederhosen.
Luckily, I could see we would pass by it, so I didn't order a course change because I didn't want my stern to smack into it.
