Welcome aboard LtCmdrTwilley. If I remember rightly, in Clear the bridge! He writes that he thought the best place for the gun was aft, so he could use it if being chased and the way he puts it, it seems as if he didn't have a choice in where it was put. He seems to be complaining about the gun being mounted forward.
