Radar makes a huge difference to my hunting tactics, makes it easier to id potential targets and close to within hunting range. Being 43' and with only 2 years left to run and my orders taking me no where near major battles I haven't yet encountered a large convoy to put my fish into. Came close to getting sunk near Rabul though, see Patrol stories/reports for the info of that encounter.
The large convoys are out there. I know at the beginning of the war you will encounter a huge convoy steaming toward Manilla. They stick kind of close to the west side of the island headed right to Manilla. This is the only one I have encountered because I usually do not get past two patrols because of adding a mod and restarting or as seen here in this thread....darn circle runner.
