In the early part of the war AVGWarhawk has it right it is a hotspot of convoys of 6 merchants with two small escorts. You will see massive warship convoys and a few troopships surrounded by 12 to 16 escorts. If you scoot out of Manila and run to the top of Luzon you can encounter the invasion force. Near one of the small islands you can find a Chitose and escorts.
Later when you are shifted to Fremantle, the Celebese sea, Makassar Straits and the Tawi Tawi choke point are all good hunting. Late war hot spots are outside Singapore and the Formosa Straits.
