I am not a Navy guy, but it is my understanding that the Navy has little sympathy when one of their ships stops floating and becomes stuck. It is also my understanding that the Navy pretty much has the attitude that the Captain is responsible when ever anything goes wrong.

Probably over. The Captain is the absolute law aboard his ship. The downside of that is he is also answerable for everything that happens. Mitigating circumstances? When the USS
Frank E. Evans was rammed and sunk by HMAS
Melbourne, her skipper was asleep in his bunk. He was exonerated at his court-martial, but never commanded a ship again.
Of course the captain of
Melbourne suffered a similar fate. It's the navy way.
