I was one (in SH3) ... and, yes, it takes a long time to get from Pearl to Japan (in SH4) when playing in real time. That's where the radio and phonograph come in handy.
It's also why I gotta keep close watch on mods ... so as to time arrival back in port with release dates of those I've been waiting to download and install.

From what I've read, it's turn-based. An RPG. Interesting for awhile ... but I prefer simulations. RPGs are more of an intellectual exercise from a god's eye point of view. Sims are more "up close and personal."
