If you are in the early years before radar, and on patrol defined to a particular area, your best way to search is by sonar. You can hear boats beyond visual range and it is more efficient than using lookouts, ecspecially at night. |
Even later in the war this is a viable tactic, I often find ships through the occassional sound check though all other methods had failed.
