I'm playing Vanilla and yes, in areas with good air cover, the planes get pretty annoying.
Most days I don't even bother coming to the surface, just tooling along at 30m+ at 2-3 knots. Might pop up for a radar scan or two. Might risk it a bit more in typhoon season but otherwise, like the old Blue Oyster Cult song-"I love the night".
