Actually on most of the ships I have used, you do contol one Turret. It takes the place of the submarine deckgun. So you can select a target for the other guns to shoot at, and then man one turret yourself and fire at a different target. And you also get to control two or three AA guns depending on the ship and how it is modded. And if it is modded you can end up controlling something like a 5 inch gun, possibly even double barrel if it is modded as an AA or dual purpose cannon.
