So I copied my career files over to my new install, and when I went to load the latest save (In port, for what it's worth) I noticed that the Type XXI was listed as my submarine... This in November 1939, when the IXB is big news.
Unsurprisingly, it crashed while loading the patrol. I'm going to delete the folder in My Documents and see if a new career will work out.
