well your logic is sound but there is a lot of flat or near flat and very shallow angled areas on subs so location of the hit is a big factor too.
as for the pressure hull you have it backwards, it would be easier to pierce a hull not under pressure than one with pressure in it. try hitting a soda bottle with and then without a cap.
i do agree with you that the game gives you more damage from small rounds than i think is correct.
