Basically the most important difference between the Normal Gui and the Special Gui is that the last one only has one magnification setting (3x), so you can forget the extra wheel sliding that involves the 15degree-mark. Also, the Normal Gui required doubled mast values (doing it in-your-head or let a small program create a correction-mod for it), but the Special Gui can use the unchanged mastheight values.
You can use the Normal Gui on-top-of the Ubermod. Just enable the Normal Gui mod-parts as last, and don't enable the Special Gui. The drawback is that the wavetop improvement is lost. And iirc his map contact update changes are also not in the normal gui.
