What I might suggest , is you find a store that can give you a demo of the PS3's Bluray on a decent home theatre setup and check it out , I think you might be suprised at the results

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying its bad.
For one though, I have played with the PS3 and the one thing that annoys me above all others is the FAN!!!!
Besides, there is a different level of guts / internals / power supply isolation, etc. that goes into decent equipment. A dedicated machine will be designed to minimize these things, that is if they aren't designing on the cheap.
The fan alone should enough to discourage anyone from buying it as a movie player though unless they want to leave the feeling of story / disbelief behind.
Fans are not needed. I have easy 1500 WATTS+ online without one fan present. It can be done.
