I've never "locked" on any sighting prior to sending a Contact Report, my problem is remembering to send the damn report as I'll get busy trying to intercept etc
. If I see a ship/convoy I'll click on the contact report icon. Usually, but not always, I'll get a message directing a course of action or at least acknowledging the contact.
