I wish I took a screenshot of this act of stupidity.
So I've been gone for about 6 months, finally came back and started fresh with a Type IIA in 1939. Assigned to patrol AN21, found nothing but destroyers for a few days so I decided to poke around the British sub base in that grid and see what was there. A passing destroyer caught a whiff of me (probably saw the periscope, I was too busy admiring the destroyer...don't ask) It came about and steamed straight at me with a bone. Seeing I didn't have much room to dive deeper (I'm in really shallow water...) I didn't do anything cept go to silent running @ 100RPMs. DDs bow drilled my conning tower and pushed me straight into the seafloor, and I lost all hands from that collision. Oh how embarrassing compared to my successes before my hiatus.
