Options? Officially, none. You're dead!
(at least in stock 1.4).
There was a post(s) about hacking the save file or something... search the forum a bit and you'll find it.
Why does this thing happen?
1. Your batterie does not "auto recharge" 100%. It reaches, say, 99%. That means that your fuel consumption is almost equivalent as moving at flank speed (this according to earlier discussions on the subject). What triggers the effect? Probably already sustained damage (regardless of the fact that it may be repaired). Solution: Click the button to manually stop "auto recharge"!
2. Tank leak? Sounds logical but I'm not sure it's a well documented effect.
3. Adverse weather leading to increased fuel consumption: Also discussed, mixed responses, personally I think it maybe an issue but don't quote me on this!
