known bugs with XXI boats?

i just tryed a sungle mission in one of these subs and as soon as the mission started i got reports of damage.

what other bugs are there and have are there any fixes?

I havent tried the XXI in single missions, but i have experienced a minor bug: Before i start my patrol in the campaign mode (when i use the XXI), i get a report that the main pump is destroyed. It occurs when the loading screen turns into the game screen. Its at the same moment the sonar gets destroyed on the VIIC.... I dunno whats going on.. IIRC, it happends in the GW and in the NYGM mod. Not a big problem though, since my crew is well trained and has been out a winter night before, but ...:hmm:

The main pump is destroyed by the snorkel.

The sonar is destroyed by the radar antenna.

The snokel presents just as large radar-crossection as the entire boat.

Torpedo loading issues, but this one is more of a "bug" with something else (unlike the IXD2's torpedo issues).

Battery won't recharge.

There's others, but that's all I can remember right now.

I hate that buggy boat with a passion. Some of the bugs are fixable by modding, but the radar is kinda pointless in that boat. Snorkel visiblity is a problem with any snorkel i think, and its fixible. It's not just the XXI that has problems with it.

Main pump destroyed is an issue with the zones.cfg. Theres a version out there that works, i dont remember if it was stock or one of the hollywood files.

Nice replys, mates, but one question. Was Bernard involved with the Dev team over at Ubisoft when they configured the XXI? Or did it have all those problems in real life?:-? and: Ther radar presents a cross-section the size of the boat?????????????? What the h***? This has to be fixed......

bookworm_020 10-23-06 05:48 PM

There is a fix for the battery and torpedo problem. Look in the SHIII mods forum, select the mods list thread and scroll down, there sould be a mod for xxi battery fix.

The other problems I'm not sure on. You can reduce the Snorkel cross section by making sure you are at snokel depth when you deploy it. you can also trim the boat down a meter or two to reduce the projection of the snorkel, and do it at night, so it can't be seen

Best of luck

I totally forgot about that. Ironically i think i did *some* of the orginal work on that, and i dont even use the damn boat. Go figure.

edit: here you go, von helshings XXI battery fix.

Im pretty sure DTB has included all available fixes. NYGM is pretty thorough.

When i try to use the XXI, it just doesn't start. It doesn't matter if i'm in single player or campaign. Both the diesel and the electric engines do nothing.

I'm using SH3 with 1.4b and GW1.1A + SH3 commander 2.6

Anyone else?

IIRC, you can try the 24 four fatigue fix for GW1.1a. Itīs in the Grey Wolves sticky at the mods section (1st post). I think the link is inactive, but Iīll make sure itīs reposted. In the mean time try using another fatigue scheme through SH3Cdr. It should work.

In GW all XXI glitches have been taken care of. One still remains...and since I love this boat, for me itīs one of the most annoying SHIII bugs still remaining: The lack of an operational radar warning receiver at the top of the XXI snorkel.

Thnx, i will try that. I can't remember if i installed the fatique update from GW. But i do recollect that i noticed it somewhere. Wasn't really sure what it was for. But this explains a lot.

Respenus 10-24-06 08:43 AM

Well if you are using the GW 24h mod, you need to install the basic.cfg fix so that things will work.

I have a seperate installation, where I have GW with Kid Mod and I didn't install the basic.cfg fix as there is no fatique.

In campain, everything works fine, but in SP mission, it get a type IIA conning tower :D (gotta post the pic sometime) and lot of things are destroyed. In the normal GW, I have no problems!

This also i know to be quite true :D I think the XXI is Gib's favorite too. Goes without saying the XXI will be patched up as much as possible. Im kinda curious to see if the last remaning issues were able to be addressed in GWX or not. I dont know if those issues are fixable by any modder, but it's always fun to hope :D
