Hezbollah cracked IDF comm codes

Have lost track of these things myself a bit. Did not know to what degree Hezbollah was able to hack into IDF comms. HighTech really add some additonal thoughts needed to the concept of asymmetraicl warfare.

What needs to be remembered is this quote:
"A guerrilla force with the capabilities of a regular army."

SigSec is always open to being compromised. You Germans should understand that as well as anyone else... :D

This news is about 2 weeks old.

Does Newsday have staff problems in their telegram wire deciphering department? :p

Yes, news from mid-Septemeber. But I lost track of the whole story and was surprised when now reading to what decisive degree Hezbollah had developed it's comm-intel capacities. Extremely bad news, since they will not stop polishing their abilities.

I thought that Hezbollah used an Imperial Probe Droid to intercept IDF comms and gain the upper hand in the intelligence gathering department! :D

So, what's the story with this?

Was the IDF giving the god damn UN team their comsec codes?

Was Iran/Syria/Hezbollah just using receivers to pinpoint inter-tank transmissions, and using UCA (unique component analysis) to determine the total force strength (this is based on the theory that no two radios are the exact same, and tiny differences in signal propagation can be detected and catalogued)?

The encryption on these things are fairly tight, and if the codes are changed daily like ours, breaking the algorithm would be some kind of absolute stroke of luck. So all things equal, I'm going to go with UCA and Iranian receivers.

edit: And, I guess, Russia. Russia is like Switzerland -- money from the middle is a lucrative niche. It's probably Russian gear, given to Iran, given to Syria, given to Hezbollah. Our comm systems need a severe overhaul. Interoperability, and operational security through obfuscation.

I doubt theres is anything wrong about Israeli communications systems. If something has been intecepted its do to someone being lazy and/or careless. Seen it happen many times on exercises. We use Israeli radios also and i have great faith on them, used correctly.
