Dropping Mark 46 torpedo from P-3?

Now my next task is to drop a torpedo from the P-3 close enough to target so it will detect it? Has anyone had any luck with this task?

obviously me:arrgh!:

but seriously, you need to be a little more specific. Whats the problem?
Torpedo acting weird?
No Lock on?
lock on but miss?
details will get you an answer:up:

The torpedo drops and just won't lock on at all. I tried the Circle pattern and the snake pattern. Just does not seem to find the sub and lock on to it.

hmm, you should be much more sure of your contact's position.....

have you tried the "pinpoint" method with sonobuoys?

btw, thanks for clearing up what the problem was, last time, someone didn't like my advice too much!:)

You might want to check the floor setting. I think it defaults to 1000yrds and subs keep diving under that. Also the Run To Enable - I think that defaults to 1000yrds as well. (Personally, I regularly forget to check these things and invariably waste my first torp in most games).

ASWnut101 10-02-06 07:16 PM

hehe, doc: dont you mean 1000 FEET, because 1000yds is around 17,000 feet.:know:

but yeah, that could be a problem, and you may also want to make sure that the Run to Enable (RTE) is set to around 0000 to avoid overshoot.

Success!!!

ASWnut101 10-02-06 08:57 PM

did you find out what the problem was?

congrats!
ask us if you need anything else!

Kirk 10-02-06 10:13 PM

Yeah! Looks like I had the wrong depth settings. Made the Floor:300 Ceiling:20 Depth:20. Where before the Floor was 1000 but I changed it to 200 but should have been 300. Anyway problem solved. Woo Hoo:sunny:

Oh! Another thing. I made a distance ring on my plane of 3nm, setup a torpedo, lined up and once I was 3nm away I dropped the weapon.

ASWnut101 10-02-06 10:26 PM

cool, Il try that....

Dr.Sid 10-03-06 02:52 AM

3nm is way too much. It's good for snake pattern, but circle is much better. Especially with LWAMI mod where torps don't explode on CMs. torpedo then have more chances to reacquire sub. With snake it usually goes thru 1st CM and then it goes snaking away.
With distant target it's even fun to fire circle torpedoes from sub.
