Coming late to the game

I am a happy man, my copy of SH3 arrived today. Now all I have to do is wait for my computer to arrive :)

I'll finally have a computer that will be able to handle the game, and I am giddy :D

AVGWarhawk 10-02-06 12:36 PM

LOL, got the game first and waiting on the computer? Is that like the cart before the horse? Well, I'm glad you are getting a CPU with some juice for this game as well as others coming out! Good luck and good hunting!

kylania 10-02-06 12:39 PM

Welcome to SH3!! You picked a great game at a great time to get into. :)

Not really, software is supreme. The only reason to own a computer is to be able to run the software.

I allways tell my friends that the correct way to but a computer is to first buy the software that you're planning to use, and then buy a computer that will run it smoothly.

Same with consoles, I never buy them until I see a game that I just have to have and then I buy the console.

Tchocky 10-02-06 01:16 PM

Well, I'm jumping from a Celeron/128MB RAM/SiS Integrated Graphics to a Core 2 Duo/1024MB/Nvidia 7600, so I'm fairly happy :). Nice 17in laptop arriving soon...

I've been reading these forums for a while, threads like the English Channel one today really try my patience. Come on FedEX!!!!! I've played SH1 to death, but my CD recently became b0rked, and so I was back to Red Storm Rising

Find a PC you can just barely afford, then get an upgrade from that instead. Buy a PC that'll run software you didn't even know you need to run yet, otherwise you'll be buying PCs more often than Software. :yep:

True that, I upgrade...less expensive then getting a whole new rig! So to me the cart is before the horse if you get the game first then the computer to run it.

My backpack, travel mouse and laptop lock arrived today. I'm almost mad with anticipation

Dont worry Tchocky I did the same thing with (SWOTL) Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. I brought the game and all of it's addons before I brought my first IBM compatible PC :).

Prior to my first IBM compatible PC I had been using Commodore Amigas for a few years. I also owned BOB (Battle of Britian) by the same company and played it to death. Another one of my favourites was Silent Service on the Amiga.

Then when I heard SWOTL was coming out. I could hardly wait. Knowing full well it would be better on the Amiga over the PC :). But much to my surprise and disbelief they never ported the game over to the Amiga :(..

So what was I to do? As I wanted to play this game so badly especially with all those secret weapon aircraft in the game. So I had no choice and I knew I would have to buy a PC even if it was only just to play SWOTL.

So what I ended up doing was going out and buying the game plus all the addons so that I had them ready. I then saved up and brought my first IBM compatible PC. You dont really want to know what it was. Nor do you want to know how much it cost me.

But either way the rest is history and I hope you enjoy playing SH3 :).

EDIT:
Oh and I forgot to mention incase anyone is interested. I still have SWOTL and all of the addon's after all these years :).

I wouldn't mind if I had my old computer with me, but that comes with moving house and country :)

Tchocky 10-20-06 11:39 PM

After an absolutely horrific shipping experience (wrong country/customs delay/mysterious vanishing/missed dropoff), I finally loaded up SHIII this evening. I'm currently plowing through the Naval Academy, had my first horrid dud torpedo, closely followed by a near-miss of inches on a C2. What a great sim :D

One hell of a jump there in performance . It would be like going from a horse drawn cart to a ferrari .

I bought the game shortly after it was released, then finally got the computer a month later. I think this sort of behaviour is perfectly normal.
