Upgraded computer = WOW
I recently discarded my AMD Athlon 64 3000+, Abit socket 754 motherboard and Geforce 6600 GT 256MB for a PCI Express layout.
I didn`t go crazy, I just got an AMD Athlon 64 3800+, Abit KN8 SLI socket 939 and a XFX 7600 GS 256MB. (The 1,5 giga RAM followed me over) The difference is really remarkable. I now have 100-130 fps in open seas with GW, and around 50 fps when recording with fraps. In addition loading times are nearly halved. This is not a costly setup, so I recommend it to anyone. |
Now you know how I felt with my new computer :sunny:
|
I'm jealous! I only need 70 more USD's to get a new pc, but i just cant get that much!
|
Nice mate, you original setup is almost exactly what I have now (Athlon 64 3000+ is 939 socket, gig ram, and MSI K8T Mobo, 6600GT 128mb). I've been thinking of building a rig like that for awhile.

I got the XFX 7600 GS after reading alot of reviews. It actually performs as well as the 7600 GT in most cases, and it is really cheap nowadays. (About 150$)
Oh ... and it has passive cooling, so no fan noise. Review: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/336/1/ |

My old Dell could play this game maxed out easily on 1024x768, surprisingly: Radeon X600SE 128MB low-profile(then GeForce 6200TC, explanation following) Pentium 4 3.06 GHz 2 GB PC3200 DDR400 I could play the game maxed out easily on the X600SE, then... ...well... it kind of exploded. :hmm: 6200TC was a tad weaker, but could still play on the same settings. Now I can play the game on 1280x1024 maxed out on my new computer: GeForce 7800GT Athlon 64 X2 4800+ 2 GB PC3200 DDR400 |
with all those power, I feel like playing on Commodore 64
Sempron 3000+ 1GB RAM K8 Triton; nForce3 Radeon 9550 |
Commodore 64! :rotfl: I wonder if you could modify a C64's parts and play SH3 on the modded parts... or is the display a bottleneck?

To the Original Poster: How much did your new rig cost and where did you get it??
I recently upgraded my computer from a really crappy one(because it was non-existant) to a : Asus A8N-E mobo AMD Athlon 3200+ venice leadtek geforce 6600 vanilla 1 gig corsair value select ram onboard ac97 sound It was about $500 -- all I could afford, but I am happy it runs SH3 fine on decent settings. got it from buyxg.com--DO NOT buy from them--they didn't get my order right and would not fix the mistake after I tried three times to call, had to get ram seperately because of it. anyways just curious |
$500! :o Excellent deal!
|
It actually turned out to be around $650 after buyxg.com screwed up my order. But since my original target was $500 and it would have cost about that much originally, I just like telling my self I just spent a nice even $500....dammit.

Having a souped up killer ninja computer will definetly help your game's performance, but the sad fact is that the SHIII just isn't very optimized or stable (performance wise) to begin with.
I recently bought a new laptop, a Sony VAIO VGN-SZ360P, and I have seen a few odd ocations where playing the game can go from 100 fps to suddenly very low. I particularly remember an instance where zooming in to the max on the nav-map droped the fps count to around 15!!! ... on the Nav-Map  ...oh, and that was without any convoys in view :nope: . Saved and quit, then reloaded and the problem was gone, and I'm like: what the hell? Let's hope SHIV has a leaner, more efficient and ROBUST programing in it  |

A good deal, this. The only part of computers that is still expensive is RAM. |
