Using the towed array on FFG?
Is there any hints on how to use this array. Spent hours trying to make it work and is there a trick to tell what "beam" it is off of and what side: port or starboard? I seem to always get my own ship? Thanks in advance.

Yes, the TA on the OHP can be very confusing :hmm:
From what I learned: TAG 1 always seems to be ownship. So don't bother with that contact. If you want to find a specific contact in the LOFAR screen, you can either look for the TAG number, or you can check the number of the 'whiz-wheel' beam by moving the cursor over each of the little displays. The number of the beam is given in the DDI up right. For determining whether the contact is port or starboard, you have to check how a contact moves along the Broadband display when changing OS course (it takes a while for the TA to change course, so you have to be patient). If you turn right and - the contact moves up in the BB display, the contact is off starboard. - the contact moves down, the contact is off port. If you turn left and - the contact moves up in the BB display, the contact is off port - the contact moves down, the contact is off starboard If you prefer, you can also use the NavMap. When you mark a contact on the TA, there will be two contacts on the map. If you change course, one of the contacts will (more or less) remain the to same direction, while the other one will jump around wildly until you completed the turn. The contact that has remained the same is the real contact, the other one is the ambiguous contact. Delete the ambiuous contact from the NavMap (strg+shift+D) and the TA will automatically follow the real one. |
Oh good. It is not me that is going crazy.:damn: Thanks for the tip on that one. My mind has been so much on the sub side of things I need to change things up and use surface ships. Thanks again.
