A Bit Of Excitement

1) I was online in the library Friday when someone set a bomb off. I was in the Technology Center on the first floor; the bomb was on the third floor. At first I thought someone had fired a gun on my floor, then when it wasn't repeated I thought maybe someone had knocked over a big bookshelf. A few minutes later a librarian came around and politely asked us to evacuate the building. Once outside we could see the hole (about one foot across and maybe 6 inches high) in the safety-glass window. The rest of the window was spider-webbed. It seems to have been a small pipe-bomb made of PVC plastic, placed on a chair right next to the window. No-one was hurt.

Apparently it was some kid who thought it would be funny. I haven't heard any report of an arrest yet.

I'm sure that kid won't think it's funny when he drops the soap....

Back in the early 90's, when I was living in Vallejo, Ca., a local drug dealer was up for his third strike offense & a life sentence. Since he knew the Solano Sheriff's Dept. evidence room was in the basement of the Vallejo Library building, he hired a couple of his no-account buddues to plant a bomb there. He also gave them two other bombs with instructions to plant them at other locations in Vallejo to throw off the cops. The Library bomb was discovered by a kid and disarmed by the bomb squad. The other two bombs went off with no injuries, one at the Solano County Building and the other at the local Wells Fargo Branch. Unfortunately, for the perpetrators, they planted the Wells Fargo bomb right underneath the ATM. So the ATM camera got clear pictures of both of them. It took the local police about 5 minutes to solve the crime and charge all three. The dealer got life, the 2 bombers got 25-to-life.

That's exactly what they're hoping here-the library has security cameras which may lead to the suspect. No pictures published yet, though.

This reminds me of when I was 12 and some kid dug up a WWII grenade at the weekend. Spent Saturday and Sundy "polishing" it. Monday he brings it into school where various reports have him and his mates bouncing it off a wall. He then showed his class at morning registration and we got a day off of school.

After the bomb squad blew it up the little idiot even asked for his bomb back.
