Screen flicker help

After reinstalling following a reformat etc of comp, I've now got a flicker when I'm in the map view (or at least it's more noticeable in the map view because of the lines ... they sort of "vibrate"). It's not happening in other applications. The game otherwise runs just fine, as it did before.

Before I start messing with settings, and I don't know much about graphics settings, any help/suggestions would be appreciated. I have an ATI Radeon 9550, the only thing settings I've changed from default (which I had before without flicker) is to turn on forced anti-aliasing, along with temporal and adaptive anti-aliasing.

Do you have a CRT or an LCD screen?

If you nhave a CRT maybe your refresh rate is set very low in the graphics card settings?

CRT. The refresh rate is set at 75Hz on 1024x768 and 32bit colour. The monitor properties in the graphics card app say that there's a max refresh rate of 120Hz. So I should just increase it? I'll give it a try.

Try turning on V-Sync.

By all means turn your refresh rate to the max setting, your eyes will love you for it. Don't know if this will fix your particular problem though... but 75 hz is certainly visible and you should do yourself a favour and turn it up anyway.

ok, I'll crank up the refresh.

What's Vsync? I don't see it in the graphics app.

Tks guys, btw.

The refresh rate increase fixed it. Cranked up to 85 (it was in fact on 60) which is max on screen res.

I couldn't see any Vsync (unless means vert sync) btw, my sync settings seem to have to do with the horz and vert scaling.

Anyway, whatever fixed it, Tks again.

V-Sync, or Vertical Sync, limits your Frames Per Second (FPS) to your monitors current refresh rate. When Vertical Sync is turned off there is no limit on your FPS, but if your computer generates more frames than what your monitors hertz are set to, you get screen tearing (those irritating horizontal lines). I always turn on V-Sync when playing SHIII, the game feels more smoother and no screen tearing
