Computer woes
So Im looking around for a new vid card and during the course of my research I figure out that I cant use any of the new PCI express cards. My MoBo only has pci and agp slots. I could get a new mobo but that would also mean new memory since most stuff is ddr2 now and likely a new processor.
Now since I dont really want to gut my rig right now I figure on just getting a nice pci or agp card to tide me over for a bit till I do want to do a complete rebuild. Atm Im running a geforce 5700 ultra at 128m. I have a P4 2.4g cpu, asus mobo and 1750m of ddr ram and a 450w power supply. Can anyone suggest a nice replacement vid card? I want at least 256m on it. |
hey! dont worry ur pc specs are better then mine!
Intel Celeron D. 2.93ghtz, 512mb RAM, Geforce 5200...<now thats a crappy pc! For a good vid card a Radeon X1600 PRO AGP is a good card, has 512mb of memory a little on the expensive side though........but it will give you everything you need check it out: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...110&CatId=2234 also the chances of you needing a new cpu is low if ur current one is a socket like 775 (most common on p4's) because you can get a socket 775 mobo that uses DDR and has pci-express slots for around 80-150 USD |
Get the nvidia 6800 XT or GT, it will take care of your gaming, and is rather cheap nowadays.
PS: You dont need new ram if you change motherboard. I just got my hands on a KN8 SLI socket 939 and a AMD Athlon 3800+. I switched my 6600GT (agp) for a 7600GS (pci express). I haven`t put this bits together yet, but I excpect an improvement. I am taking my sdram with me over to this board. |
Checkout pricewatch.com for the ATI Radeon x1600 pro 512mb agp. The price has dropped again and is very affordable.
