Getting damaged while leaving port w/ Grey Wolf Mod
I just installed the Grey Wolf 1.1a mod (GREAT JOB BTW). But now when I leave port I "hit" something. I left port while watching everything from the bridge. I made sure I was clear of any shipping. Then I plotted a course to my patrol area and started to accelerate time. Next thing I new my crew was complaining about damage. Sure enough I hit F7 only to see my sub is about to sink.
I thought I hit a ship so I restarted and did the same thing. It has happened 3 times now. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong? |
Hi, mate! Have you checked the "friendly mine field & subnet" map? its in the upper left of your screen. :D
|
lol those mines. I hit my first mine yesterday somewhere east of england I think. I was like "wtf was that!" Maybe a minute later it was over. Hah I was so pissed.

So I reloaded not even thinking about mines, I thought it had just crashed or something, flying along at 512x TC about at the same place and I noticed my rudder was about 3 degrees off center. Wondering why I hit external ship cam and lowered into the water to look at the rudder. RIGHT THERE in front of the camera was a mine!! EMERGENCY STOP! Managed to slowly back away from the three mines I could see there. |

wow, lucky you. I never did see what they looked like. On a side note, lol freakin pipe. I dread hearing that noise. It is like the first thing I hear everytime I get damaged. god every single sub in the game has that pipe doesn't it? |

This is one of the areas were I find the quest for realism has taken a bad route. The friendly mines and subnets play no role or serve any purpose in the sim other than to be an annoyance for the player.Yes it is realistic for them to be there, but I could not care a less about being escorted out.I simply want to get out of port ASAP and sink some ships..not spend 10-15+ minutes following some ship out of port. That and the enemy will never attack your harbor anyway so again they serve no purpose for that either.Just my preference though. |
You just have to follow the ship that's directly ahead of you when the mission starts, that's your guide off port...
Not entirely true. I've been noticing after the first patrol the DE grounds itself on the opposite shore from the harbor entrance. |
Thanks for the replies.
Dumb question... How do I turn off the friendly mines? |
Just check the freindly mine map. Its a click and drag pull down in the upper left corner of the map screen in GW. Once you know where the stuff is at you dont need to follow the escort. Just plot a course through the safe area. There is also a convoy route map and a speed/distance table in the same place incase you didnt know.:know:
Also, you can choose not to have freindly mines when you install GW. Its in the options window when installing. Easy fix is to just re-install GW and make sure you check the options you want. |

Thanks Ref, that's exactly what I did, saved a game while in port.
Shadow mind, what Diemos said, but I'm not sure reinstalling over what you have might not delete any campaign you're currently playing. I would like to know if there is another way myself. |
Battle tired
You know they are there, and you even have a map where they are.
But still I managed to get killed by driving to a subnet in front of Kiel (my base) It is when you are tired and totally out from this world 04.00 am, but just want to finish this mission and then get to bed. Then these happens. And last save was made when you sailed out for 2 weeks ago (game time) Few times I got so angry I allmost kick my PC out of window... |
In the C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Campaigns\Campa ign folder is a file callled GW_nominefield_Campaign_SCR rename your original campaign.scr to something else (eg Campaign.scr orig ) and remove the GW_nominefield_ from the other one so it becomes your campaign.scr
You will have no friendly minefields but still allied ones |
Thank god you can shoose not having friendly mines!
I would be really pissed if I always have to make sure not getting my boat blown away to Canada BEFORE I ever get out of the harbor. |
