A question of speed
I have read some things that have suggested that submarines in this game only have two levels of noise, and that they are cavitating, and non-cavitating. Or, to put it another way, at 400 ft, a seawolf going 10 knots is as quiet as one going 2.
Say it ain't so! If it is, then A) I am quite disapointed, and B) I have wasted YEARS of my life driving for my goal at 3 knots, in order to be stealthy. Please advise. |
That is for older/unmodded versions of the game, in DW 1.03 there is linear noise vs. speed curve as well as a cavitation increase.

Yeah, the original release of the game had that problem, but a subsequent patch put a noise penalty on speed.
Right now its a linear sound vs speed model with cavitation adding an additional 20points of noise iirc. Personally I'm hoping for a next step in the noise model to allow a more stepwise sound verses speed model for added realism. :) |
Ah, that's good. Thanks for the information.
