Captain on Bridge

You have a VIIB that is moored to the berth with all the crew on board ready for the mission. The Captain walks down the gangplank onto the Ub-boat and then to the Bridge. The gangplank is removd. The Captain gives the appropriate orders, in the proper order (in German) to get underway at ahead slow. What would those orders be?
"..... .... . . ... ...... . ."
Now translate into English please.
".. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ."

In Das Boot the only thing the Kapitan says before leaving port is "Harbour Stations men!" and then the ship is shown already at ahead slow.I'd guess he goes inside and says "Engines ahead slow" and maybe something more but that's all I can tell you...not sure how to spell them in German as mine isn't very good.

I have a book somewhere that handles some details of leaving port and stuff.
AKa "Die Verabschiedung" or in lame english "The Goodbye-ing" :rotfl:

Gotta take a look. It's not 100% by the rule, seein' how skippers had their own routine!
I'll come back to you!

Probably something along the lines of.....

"Let go, fore and aft!" (To the deck crew)

followed by....

"Take her out, number 1! Both engines ahead slow!"

Rough translation (thanks to Herr Babelfish, my XO)

"Gelassen gehen Linien, längsschiffs"

and then

"Führen Sie sie, Nr. 1 aus. Beide Maschinen voran verlangsamen"

Maybe wrong, but it's a reasonable guess, based on my Merchant Navy days.;)

 Thats exactly what I'm looking for. Since I don't speak German, now all I need is for someone speaking the German translation to make a mp3 file for me. Do you think your friend would like to do that if he can speak those words fluently?

But probably take her out Chief (instead of number 1 as number 1 sounds like Star Trek )

Edit: Please see the last request at the end. This is what I want because it was from a book - see entry #27

Sorry to have to tell you this robj250 but, his friend Herr Babelfish is a internet language translation site, not a real person.

After 20 minutes of ahead standard, he says :"OH S..., I forgot to tell them to cast off lines and stow the anchor!!" when he looks around and sees that he is still at the dock.

LMFAO :rotfl:

If he was in a Type IIA he might not have noticed at least until an hour later that he wasn't moving.

Hi guys, go ahead and have fun at my request. I guess I would be ROFLOL:rotfl: too. But I really do need someone to do this for me :D

mountainmanUK 08-28-06 06:01 PM

I wish I could help further, Robj250, but my knowledge of the German language amounts to what I've learnt in SH3, and not much more!

There are enough German members here! C'mon guys.... any translators?
Springen Sie zu es!!!;)

Ok, let's try:

"Let go, fore and aft!" (To the deck crew)
"Klar zum Ablegen, vorn und achtern: Leinen los"

"Take her out, number 1! Both engines ahead slow!"
Usually one would give a command to NAV about course and speed:
"Steuermann, Kurs 234, beide Maschinen 1/3 voraus"

stabiz 08-29-06 08:30 AM

Isn`t there a german forum? I would try that.

Lurchi 08-29-06 10:41 AM

This is actually very good:

Auf Manöverstationen! [Man maneuvering stations!]
Beide Maschinen: Langsame Fahrt voraus! [Both engines: ahead slow!]

P.S. Mr. Babelfish's german is horrible :-?:)
