Two Questions

What is "NYGM" ??

In the torpedo training mission there are little yellow and green triangles that show up on the target.. at least through the binoculars they do. What are these for ??

Thanx for your patience... Maybe I'll catch up with you...:D

Nygm : Is an Mod that Aims for Hardcore Realism players. you can download it on subsim.com under the updates section.

The Triangle is the Angle on Bow indicator

when its Red - Orange : not an good AoB (angel on bow) to shoot
when its yellow - green: good AoB to shoot

No. It is the gyroangle indicator. When the triangle is green, the torpedo will (if at all) barely have to turn to make the shot. Bear in mind, when you press the firing button, the solution is fixed, but your sub and target are still moving, so if the triangle is yellow or orange, that time elapsed will result in a small amount of error in the actual path traveled by the torpedo.

(you can notice this yourself by watching the gyroangle display; as it goes from 355-005 degrees, the triangle will be green, for example. I can't remember what the other values are.)

Yes,it indicates the "amount of moving" to be done by the torpedo.For example,if you are parallel with a ship,you can have a very good AoB ,but the triangle will orange.

@enemy ---> __
@@@@@@@@@| <----- torpedo trajectory
you---> __ - - - /

Hope you understand the drawing:DThe continous lines are the 2 ships-you and your target and the dotted line is the ideal torpedo trajectory.The position is really good if you are not seen,as the torpedo will have a lot of chances to hit.And if you look at the triangel in that position,it will be orange.You can however use it as a bit of guidance.You have to take into consideration the position of you ship and your target's position.For example,if you are in the position I drew,and you look at the enemy,you want the triangle to be orange or yellow .If you see it green,you know something is probably wrong.And if you are attacking at a 90 degree angle , you want the triangle to be green.If it's red,then something might be wrong with your calculations.

Right. If it's a fairly straight shot, and the triangle is red, check to make sure you don't have the rear torpedo tube selected by mistake, for example.

Thanks for all the details... I appreciate the time and trouble...;)

HunterICX 08-28-06 11:24 AM

:D and I thought it was an sort of AoB indicator....:damn: well I just watched it in-game. and yes as it turns green my Gyro angle is 000

@Goat : No Problem...Happy Hunting

The files are also on Filefront where I got them from.Go to the SH3 mods forum to the NYGM thread and you should find some more links there.

:D :D ... Well, I 'downloaded' a file called 'NYGM_Tonnage_War_v2.0.7z'.... I think !
It took a long. long time. Must have been everybody in the world on d/l. Ended at 27 kb/sec... But, I don't think the file is good; I can't virus scan it...

Anyway WAS IT THE CORRECT FILE, in the first place ??

Yes ,that is the correct file.
I assure you,it has no viruses ro spy/adware on it.
Here's what to do.If you don't have RAR ,download it at www.rarlabs.com .
Then,use it to extract the file you downloaded (I had the same speed when I got it ,but now I have a better connection and my dowloads go with a minimum of 100kb/s :D so no more waiting for GWX or NYGM2.2 to download MUHAHAA....ahem...ok let's move on) prefferably in the MODS folder ,created by the mod enabler .If you don't have it ,search for a link to it (search for mod enabler) or if you can't find it go to Jscone's site and you should see it there.
Then,just activate it like you do with other mods.If you don't know how to activate mods I could go in a bit more detail if you would like me to.
Also,there are some manuals in the "documentation" folder and some optional mods there too.
If you like NYGM(I know I do ) wait around for 2.2 which should be even cooler!
Also,download the periscope and visual fix from the NYGM thread in the mods section and install those the same way.
Cheers!

Sounds pretty complicated... since I have only just begun to play the game! I think I will settle for the Basic Game... and Grey Wolves, which I do have. If I get more involved, I will go through the steps with NYGM.

But I thank you for taking the time to explain it all to me...

Cheers...

Welcome to SHIII Goat! I'm a very new player too, just about a week, and I'm really enjoying Grey Wolves. It's still a good balance of game vs realism.

Hrm seems to be an influx of new players (shrug).

Welcome !

I can recommend the GW mod as well. NYGM is just a little too hard core for me :-?
