A question for Skybird & Gizzmoe

I heard this on the radio, according to the radio you don't.

Is it true German people never queue up in shops? :hmm:

Gizzmoe 08-17-06 10:37 AM

Of course we do, do you think we are savages?

No.

If it was true, wow what service in and out.

Cheers. :D

A good lesson do not believe all you hear on the radio. :yep:

Gizzmoe 08-17-06 10:50 AM

Wait, I somehow get the feeling that I misunderstood your question. What exactly did they mean with "queuing up in shops"? Give an example...

STEED 08-17-06 10:58 AM

It was not a real clear statement by the person on the radio, I think they were suggesting you get very fast service at the check out without standing around like us Brits.

Gizzmoe 08-17-06 11:07 AM

Oh, I see. Well, that of course depends on when and where you go shopping. On a Saturday morning I often need to wait 10 minutes when I go to my butcher, Wednesday at 10 less than a minute or not at all. If you go shopping when everyone else does then there are longer waiting times, that´s normal...

Skybird 08-17-06 12:30 PM

queuing up in shops = "in der Schlange stehen"? Well, that certainly depends on the situation, time, and so on.

Cheers Guys. :D

Blasted radio. :yep:

We don't queuing in shops. You ask who's last and wait your time. Or you can take a number.
I guess you can call us savages when we try to get into a train, or at least some of us.
I wait till its my time, but I very rarely travel with a train.

Very civilised :yep: It wouldn't work here, the brits are too reserved to walk into a shop full of people they don't know and ask a question - we just queue in silence trying not to make eye contact with anyone!

It's easy to stop people being rude, you just have to give them a good first impression.
I find its most effective if you give the first impression on the nose or in the stomach. Its all about the impact you make with other people.

Out of curiousity, in Germany, do you still have your beer mat marked for each steiner you drink then pay at the end ? I experienced this when I was over there many years ago.
