when I try and patch the game it gives me an error message ending in " unknown version"

does anyone know what this is ive tried every patch!!!

Ive got the US DVD, I have had it for about a year and was just able to start playing it due to " at purchase time I didnt realize my computer wouldnt handle the game". I have tried fresh instals and everything im not sure why im getting this error message when i patch. second im also getting an error message now when I try and install. their tech website told me there must me reminanats of a broken file on my hard drive.

all of this happened when I attempted to load grew wolves. I was 17 missions into a patrol, and saw a thread that GW was the only patch i needed so i downloaded it and then the system crashed....

I hope i didnt offend anyone but I dont steal games or use bogas patches, I dont play much but when I do I want the *******ing thing to work. guess I'll go somewhere else for help.

You shouldn't have loaded GW while in a patrol.THat's probably why the error started.Always start a new career after installing a major-mod or even a smaller one.If it is because of a broken file,manually deleting the sh3 folder if you haven't already,install to another drive or something...and GW isn't a "patch".It's a mod.It does ,however,need the 1.4b patch installed before it ,so remember to do that also.

1. Fresh SH3 install
2. Patch it to 1.4b
3. Install Grey Wolves
4. Create an new Career

To be safe, get your 1.4b patch from here..... http://patches.ubi.com/silent_hunter_3/

They are all right from Ubi. I've seen other sites were the patches were/are corrupted. Not all but some of them. UbootRealsim is also a safe place to get it from.

US DVD
 

I bought the US DVD version a long time ago, installed and worked fine, don't know why I can't patch, and I've tried all 4. I know it's been awhile since this thread was updated, but could it be a registry entry?

I reboot my computer once a year, or less if I can get away with it, lord only knows what may be in that crypt of files...

Although I have used a reg cleaner...

Any advice? Wish they would just do a CD check or release the patch files in a zip or something...
