two gw related questions
Hi, subsimmers.
I have a couple of questions regarding the game. 1) I downloaded and installed the grey wolves mod last weekend & used the default install. I chose no map updating but my UZO id’s the target somewhat (doh I saw the option to disable this at install but then didn’t check it….grrr). How can I enable generic targeting info without reinstalling GW to choose this option? Is there a file I can edit somewhere to remove the instant generic id? 2) I’m trying to evade DD’s with silent running at a speed of one to two knots and the boat sinks. How can I remain buoyant and silent, a speed of 3 knots appears to be noticed by the escorts? If I have deep enough water I try to use a silent speed then let the boat drop to a deep depth. Then I set ahead standard to get the boat back up to 50m to 100m then set 1-2 knots & let the boat drop back down to the deep. How you do you guys maintain depth & speed while evading DD’s? |

No need to do anything else other than that - better than trying to change\edit files 2) :hmm: Never noticed that before My boat normally stays on depth even at 0 speed What you are describing sounds similair to the NYGM anti hummingbird effect but thats not included in GW |
I don't know if the loss of bouyancy (sp.?) is related to Grey Wolves. But yes, I've definetly experienced it, too.
|
There is NO Negitive Bouancy in GW1.1a - period.
If your subs slowly sinking then all I can think of is you have a slow leak somewhere thats not been repaired. Either that or your helmsmen sucks, try a qualified helmsmen. |
it was the convoy attack training mission & the personnel were raw recruits if I remember correctly. Will upgrade my helmsmen for the actual patrol.
I will reinstall GW over my current install to change that targeting option. Makes me mad cause I looked right at it, new what it was then decided, 'well let's try out the default install'. Thank you all for your input, I appreciate it! :) |
Sounds like a case of the "crash dive blues". If you change depth after initiating a crash dive your boat will slowly sink at the stern at slower speeds. Reissue the crash dive and let it take its course until you hit 70m.

Payoff, I had crashed dived so perhaps that was the problem. I have played numerous careers & crashed dive numerous times during those careers & that was the first time I had ever experienced that sinking feeling.
I hadn't heard of the 'crash dive blues' before & the only change in my configuration was the installation of the GW mod. I had assumed (i know, i know what assume spells lol!) that it was something to do with the 'Hummingbird' mod being included into GW. I know GW & NYGM are different but GW uses the NYGM damage mod. Anyways now I know to have a good helmsman, which I try to do, and not to crash dive then change depth. Great community here & appreciate the help. Excellent mods for a game I spend way too much time on lol. I noticed this post was moved as well, sorry moderators for making extra work for you :( |
Hmm!, unusual. I crash dive and as soon as the order is complied with I change the depth order to go deeper much faster and have had no probs :p No "crash dive blues" here.

No Hummingbird's in GW either, we have Seagulls but definatley no Hummingbird's!
Hummingbird's and Subs dont mix ya see. ;) |
So I finally installes GW.
But now I have a question, too, namely about the contacts names. Most ships are just named "Contact". I think it's because I installed the "Generic ship contact names"-option. Is there a way to change this without reinstalling GW? |
