okay love the mod but what would be the best way of using this mod? Would I have to edit my Roster files as countries became neutral???
Ya know I love using mods but don't know fink about editing and such :damn: :damn: :rotfl: Deep Six |
Well you can just put it in the swedish folder but would be a waste
I altered the ship in the US folder thus [UnitClass] ClassName=LLS UnitType=102 AppearanceDate=19380101 DisappearanceDate=19411210 DisplayName=C2 Cargo [Unit 1] Name=C2 Cargo DOC=19380101 DOD=19411210 That way it disappears in the American folder the day the US entered the war Changed the US original C2 thus [UnitClass] ClassName=KLS UnitType=102 AppearanceDate=19411211 DisappearanceDate=19470101 DisplayName=US C2 Cargo [Unit 1] Name=Santa Cecilia DOC=19411211 DOD=19470101 [Unit 2] Name=Winged Racer DOC=19411211 DOD=19470101 So the blacked out ships start when the US enters the war Its easy to replace the individual ships dates using the replace as feature in notepad For the US i typed DOC=19380101 in the find what field and put DOC=19411211 in the replace with field Hit replace all and done:up: That way you should come across lit up C2's in the convoys early war |
For Brasil its

This new lighted cargo ship looks absolutely fantastic in NYGM! Congratulations Anvart!
BigBoyWooley's ideas for adding this ship as a neutral to countries that subsequently became Allies also works very well - good idea, BBW. There remains, however, a difficult practical problem to consider: If this new lighted cargo ship is added generically (Type=102) to the campaign files, then neutral countries will appear to the player as a puzzling mixture of lighted (C2Cargo) and unlighted (eg C3Cargo) ships. Even if Anvart is willing to convert all the other type 102 merchants into lighted ships, how will anyone else be able to add their own modded type 102 ships which presumably will not be lit? To put it another way, we now have to decide whether to make all generic occurrences of Type 102 ships in campaign_RND.mis into Class NLLS ships (Anvart's lighted C2 Cargo) for all neutral countries. Moreover, all existing occurrences of the named unlighted C2 Cargo (Class=NKLS) for neutral ships are going to have to be replaced with the lighted variant (definitely). Any suggestions, anyone? Does Anvart have any plans to make any other merchants into their lighted forms? Stiebler. |
well I think Anvart is hoping to do them all
I went thru my .rnd and .scr ysterday Working from the bottom up and using the find feature I looked for all Class=KLS When that is highlighted ( If you search up ) you can see the country of the ship and the side eg 0 = neutral All I did was change the KLS entries For LLS where neutral and to coutries I added them to Eg: Where Origin American and Side 0 I changed to LLS and where side 1 I left as KLS Will post example when I get home later Didnt take that long to do both scr and rnd and mine are GW ones so not small |

I believe that I did not explain the practical difficulty with deployment of Anvart's remarkable new lighted ships clearly enough.
If you look through file campaign_RND.mis, which is where the neutral single ships are sent out across the oceans, you will see that many of the ships are 'generic' - that is, they have only associated types, not classnames. In particular, many of the generic merchants are of type=102, a general cargo ship. This means that when the ship is randomly sent off on its route, it may be any kind of cargo ship of type 102; for example a C2 Cargo or a C3 Cargo. BigBoyWooly has explained clearly how to prevent Anvart's lighted C2 Cargo from conflicting with the old, unlighted C2 Cargo. But the neutral ship could have the lighted C2 Cargo replaced by another unlighted ship of type 102, for example an unlighted C3 Cargo. Does this matter? It depends on whether players in general think it is more important to see just one kind of lighted neutral merchant, or a selection of merchants, one of which is lighted and the others are not. I myself would prefer to see the same, single lighted ship every time, rather than a confusing mixture of lighted and unlighted neutrals. I wrote a short program to extract this information from NYGM TW's v2.0 campaign_RND.mis file. Other mods will probably give somewhat different results. There are 88 qualifying neutral ships of generic type 102 ('qualifying' means neutral throughout the war, or neutral at the latest dates they sail). There are 46 qualifying neutral tankers of generic type 101, and there are 43 qualifying neutral coastal ships of generic type 104. Strangely, there are *no* qualifying liners of type 103. Having had several hours to ponder, I have decided that all my neutral ships of generic type 102 should be made into Anvart's lighted C2 Cargo, class LLS. Therefore I have adjusted the campaign_RND.mis file accordingly, by assigning classname=LLS for these generic types. If Anvart makes another lighted type 102 merchant, it will be a simple matter to alter randomly the assigned class names with a computer program, to incorporate the new ships. [Incidentally, if anyone else decides to do the same, don't forget also to change the external cargo loading to -1 (no external cargo) - neutral ships don't need to take dangerous emergency loading measures.] The campaign_SCR.mis file is less important, at any rate for NYGM TW, since all the neutral merchants are static, in harbour. The same applies to Rubini's harbour traffic mod, which also predominantly affects the _SCR.mis file. It doesn't matter much if these ships are lighted. Could I suggest to Anvart that we (the modding community) need one lighted medium tanker (type 101), one *additional* lighted cargo ship (type 102; I suggest the C3 Cargo) and one lighted coastal ship (type 104) to give us a full hand of neutral ships. This is on the basis of the above results, and it is much easier to ask than to implement, I know. Stiebler. |
Stiebler, I understand what you are saying - depends on the .Rnd you are using I suppose - mine have ship classes in it ie;
[RndGroup 63.RndUnit 9] Class=KLS Type=102 Origin=British Side=1 CargoExt=0 CargoInt=0 CfgDate=19390911 No=1 Escort=false SpawnProbability=100 CrewRating=3 [RndGroup 63.RndUnit 10] Class=OTSF Type=101 Origin=British Side=1 CargoExt=-1 CargoInt=0 CfgDate=19390911 No=1 Escort=false SpawnProbability=100 CrewRating=3 [RndGroup 63.RndUnit 11] Class=LLS Type=102 Origin=Greece Side=0 CargoExt=0 CargoInt=0 CfgDate=19390911 No=1 Escort=false SpawnProbability=100 CrewRating=3 so it was fairly simple for me to change to LLS in neutral times Same with the .Scr - mine has neutral ships sailing within convoys [Group 91.Unit 29] Name=US C2 Cargo#4 Class=LLS Type=102 Origin=American Side=0 Commander=0 CargoExt=5 CargoInt=0 CfgDate=19380101 DeleteOnLastWaypoint=true DockedShip=false Indeed just now while playing a test career came across a Neutral C2 in the middle of a convoy bound for Britain http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/6...nter0452kj.jpg I agree totally that we could do with more of the lit ships and no doubt Anvart will get round to doing them I suppose when there are enough of them one of the big mods will include in their latest release but you will always have to have a couple of classless ships in the rnd or we will be rewriting it every new ship release:o |
Just a quick question- how correct is it to have lighted neutrals in convoy?
Rules of engagement stated that any ship in convoy or under escort was fair game. Thus neutral ships in convoy could expect to be sunk, no? With that in mind, they would've adopted the same light discipline as the rest of the convoy. Of course, no convoy commander would ever allow a lighted vessel into his convoy... I love the lighted neutral concept, as I believe it gets us that little bit closer to the "perfect" subsim...but I do wonder if they should be in the game as single contacts rather than encountered in convoys. |
Stiebler, any chance of sharing that small program you wrote?
I haven't installed this ship yet... does it have it's own rec manual page? If so, is there any way to have it not show up in the rec manual...as of course there already is a C2 Cargo. |
A CORRECTION:
I proposed earlier that anyone who installs Anvart's lighted C2 Cargo should set the 'cargoext' value to -1 in campaign_RND.mis, indicating no cargo. I'd forgotten that Anvart said that this ship carries no cargo. Using a value of -1 causes a crash-to-desktop (CTD) whenever any of these ships are encountered at sea. You should use 'cargoext=2' instead (and 'cargoint=0'). Apologies to anyone who was misled. To Boris, re program to extract neutral ships. Sorry, but it isn't practical to share programs of this sort. I use them all the time for dealing with the NYGM campaign files; they take about 30 minutes to write and test, and about one second to execute. But the reason that I can produce them so quickly is that there is only the briefest error trapping and no user-friendly interface. I don't want to get involved with long arguments about why the program doesn't work (or does crash), or doesn't give the expected result. The programs are usually only appropriate for a very limited task on a very definite campaign file anyway. Stiebler. |
Well I would say you would probably need to do the C3, small merchant, coastal merchant and all the tankers :rotfl: no seriously Anvart whatever you do is a bonus :know: oh and maybe the trawler hehe
|
Anyone know how to prevent this ship from showing up im the rec manual but have it working in the game?
Also... How realistic is it to see lit up neutral ships in allied convoys? Wouldn't they have given the convoy's position away? All ships in convoy were considered fair game anyway. |
To stop it showing up in the rec manual just delete the .sil in the NLLs_ folder
