GW 1.1a vss. NYGM 2.0
Hi. I am a fan of both mods but a month ago, my 2003 Gateway PC's graphic card and sound card went out So, I had to buy a new PC, a Dell this time. I installed the stock Silent Hunter III with patches first time on this PC since getting the computer five weeks ago. I am wondering what is the best realistic and historical accurate........ and fun mod. Grey Wolves 1.1a or NYGM 2.0? Please help. :o :o :o :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn:

I think that is best to try them both and than You can make a choice for your taste. For me the NYGM 2.0 is better, but that is my opinion, because I tried them both.

Guess what my answer is :rotfl:
Seriously though, make sure that you update to TW 2.1 as it balances out the U-boat crews visual abilities in line with the improved AI visual abilities. NYGM TW 2.0 U-Boat Visual Sensor Update to 2.01 http://www.filefactory.com/?1ed0b0 |
I just finished a GW career and recently started a NYGM one.
Right now I would give NYGM the edge. When I finish this NYGM career I plan on doing another GW career...but that may be some time off because the NYGM 2.1 requires a lot more "playing" to complete a patrol now...much less a full career. I don't see the need to be strictly one or the other. Both are very fine additions. :yep: |

So the answer is you yourself have to make the choice of which you like..no one can do that for you.Just try them both out and decide afterwards. It all comes down to personal preferences in playing so no one can say that either one or the other is more realistic/historical..that is up to you the player. |

You would not however get the day time visual improvements to the AI andthe decreased night time abilites. Nor the different visual configurations for warships as compared to merchants and the yet again to smaller craft. While GW & NYGM may both address the same area it is not always with the same result. So it cannot be said that we always accomplish the same goal. |
I choose NYGM 2.0 and 2.1. Although I love Grey Wolves, the updating of your U-Boat immediately after you docked is not my cup of tea.. And, unable to scroll across your navigation map sucks.
I may not have the nicest looking sub in the U-Boat fleet but I will have a more fun game. JayW. |
Oops. I fogot to thank you the ones that responded this post. Your opinions and suggestions are much appreciated and thank you very much for helping me to decide which mod is the best.      :D :D :D

Good choice sir, and can I just add that there was talk of a GreyWolves addon for NYGM which would enhance the eye candy a bit. Not sure if it will still happen because there was once a great war between the GW and NYGM camps which lasted 1000 years. Luckily, that was a long long time ago....the war has since been replaced with a cold and deathly silence.
I should warn you though, if you have chosen NYGM then you MUST butter your bread sunny side up! Unlike those evil GW people who ALWAYS butter it sunny side down.....the horror! |

Also, in GW 1.1 the scrolling map remains... we did not change that. It seems to me that you still had an improperly installed copy sir. Best of luck and SINK THEM ALL!!!:arrgh!: |
I had the original Grey Wolves and did scroll up and sideways but not down on the navigation map.

Most have my rant on this.
There is no reason not to have both or more. All is in the data folder. When you install and patch SH3 to 1.4 simply make a complete copy of the data folder to an outside the game folder, called it 1.4stock. With that safely tucked away install GW. Once installed, make a copy of the entire data folder and place that in that outside folder call it; GW, duh!!! Now, delete the entire data folder in the SH3 game folder directory. Copy and paste the entire 1,4stock data folder back into the game directory. Now install NYGM. Make a copy of that complete data folder to that outside the game folder and call it. You guessed it, NYGM. So you have all three saved and can move them back and forth as you choose (It is a big folder so takes a few minutes each time). With all this great stuff saved one can now tear through whatever is in the game data folder edit tweak try anything new you may be curious about and if you screw up, you simply go to the saved data folder and put back the original files or delete the whole thing and copy the entire data folder again. Personally I installed GW and then ripped it up adding things from other mods and making many tweaks myself. HDs have gotten so cheap there is no excuse not to have all this stuff tucked away.
