DWX cancelled??

Has DWX been cancelled?:-? Just a asking. Have not heard anything in a while.

Thanks,

It seems so but really who cares ?
We have the lwami mod which is improving dramatically DW and is doing for this game what scx did for SC.

XabbaRus 06-14-06 04:01 PM

Yep, I doubt DWX is going to happen. I have asked Thomas many times via PMs and though he reads them he never answers.

thanks guys yall confermend my thoughts

Thanks,

Sorry for sounding like an idiot...but what was DWX? Am I the only person who missed this?

Ori_b 06-15-06 05:46 AM

Well i dont know for sure but i imagine its like SCX - the modded SC with lots of playbles, but for...DW (what a surprise).

Kurushio 06-15-06 06:15 AM

Ok, thnx, never played Subcommand.

You're confusing SCX with SCU. DWX would have been an advanced realism mod, like SCX. PCU was never going to happen b/c SCS wouldn't allow it.

Correct me if i'm wrong ML, but isn't LWAMI an advanced realism mod also ?
I don't understand why people have this veneration to a DWX mod and consider DW in a certain sense incomplete when we already have one ultimate realism mod for DW.

[sarcastic mode on]

If people want to be happy just rename the LWAMI mod into DWX.

Lwami is a realism mod, however SCX was a huge huge huge project that not only modified existing platforms in the game but added many new ones. I think there's more than 100 ships in the SCX database. Lwami is good but it hasn't reached that size yet, and that's going to take a while. Also SCX added interesting stuff like false contacts and SOSUS arrays.

I know that the work on LWAMI is going slowly but its a one-two man project.
And this is a real pity because with some help from old timers (modders of scx) things would go much much more quicker.
Unfortunately it seems those old time modders are just pissed off at scs and don't care about the future of Dw. :nope:

XabbaRus 06-15-06 10:18 AM

Actually goldorak you haven't a clue what you are talking about.

The oldtime modders aren't pissed off at anyone least of all SCS.

You should read one of my other posts.
Basically SCX was a one man project database and doctrine wise. Thomas devoted a lot of his time to it, so much so that I think he shut himself off from a fair number of people. Ramius could back me up on this one. After DW came out I was talking with Thomas about a DWX and due to the fact you couldn't just export out of SCX database and port it into the DW one it was one of the reasons why it didn't happen. It would have meant entering all the data again and retesting it all again due to differences in the DW acoustic model. SCX took up so much of his time I don't think he wanted to do that with DW. Also a number of us have had changes in our lives, I have a new kid, Ramius I think might be off on a sub cruise soon, Thomas, I don't know, Deep Six the model maker has a kid I know that much. Also Ludger has gone deep again. He was working on an updated DWEdit but I don't know what has happened there.

So Luft and Ami have taken up the modding mantle. They are doing a good job. I am happy to let my models go to the mod. If DWX did happen to arise then I'd lend my models to that mod too. Truth is there is space for both should DWX ever come about. It might be a bit late now but who knows.

The SCX team were closer to SCS and Jamie than you know. So goldorak, get the facts first.

Amizaur 06-15-06 10:22 AM

Yes, SCX a realism/playabiliy mod, it was very very good and it was HUGE project, with maybe hundreds of new AI ships, subs and planed added to database, all with realistic sensors and weapons (in place of SC stock few generic sensors). I was and I am very, very impressed with SCX. I wonder if now SCX is continued, and if some of good ideas from LwAmi could be given to SC community. And could they be used to enhance SCX itself (who's in charge for that?), or just as separate mods...?
SCX was full of good and brilliant ideas and solutions, but I believe we got few good ones too :)

aaken 06-15-06 10:22 AM

Well, modders are not exactly like mushrooms, they don't grow out of the ground and sometimes it's difficult to find them but don't give up hope...sooner or later new modders could pop up

LuftWolf 06-15-06 10:13 PM

SCX and LWAMI are very different projects.

There are many things they did that we cannot do, and many things we've done that I'm surprised they did not.

All in all, I think SCX was an expansion project, and LWAMI is a refinement project.

I'm very proud of the work that we've done, and very happy to have Amizaur as my partner on this.

You guys haven't seen anything like LWAMI4.

Thanks for your continued support here at Subsim and elsewhere! :D

Cheers,
David
