Quick Question about Visual vs Hydraphone

Isn't Hydraphone max range supposed to be farther than visual max range
or am I way off in that thinking

Yes and no....

The ability to hear depended on so many factors and after taking in all the sound factors, eyesight was the No. 1 & No. 2 choice for detecting ships.
