SH3 Generator

I have used SH3 generator (SH3GEN) with several installs including GW 1.01, IUB 1.03, Tonnage mod v 1.03 and v2.01, and modified vanilla; and it works flawlessly in all. This add-on program reads the saved game file and then adds information to your log (K key) in the game as to location of ships and convoys, expected location of capital ships at sea and in harbors, grids with increased traffic, both task forces and merchant convoys, and more. The latest version also adds BDU briefings concerning the state of the war.
It then generates a map for use in the game (F5 key) with the details located on the map. As the patrol continues, it will update both log and map from saved games.
The only files in SHIII it changes are the log and map files in the saved game folder so it won't do anything to your setup.

I find this a valuable addition to the game and use it all the time.

I've been using it for a while now. I keep the settings fairly low myself; I like knowing that the intelligence might be old, faulty or both.

I think I am using version 0.6.0 updated 2006-05-17, but I'm not sure. How can I tell which version I have? Is there a newer version because I use it on every patrol, but I don't seem to be getting things on my map that everyone is talking about. If I am using an older version, where do I get the newest version?

The version number in the title bar of the program window. You can download 0.6.0 here:

I already have version 0.6.0. Is there a newer version?

No.

Not yet, you mean. ;) I'm running SH3 Commander right now, and I'm going to do my first career with it, then switch over to SH3 Generator for a career and compare them to see how I like them.

SH3 Gen

JSalinger,
No need to switch. They are seperate programs which compliment one another, and you should use both at the same time. You start the patrol with SH3CMDR and when you are out of the harbor, save the game, back out to menu, alt+tab to desktop, run SH3Gen, exit it and then load your saved game. The updated log and map will be available in the game with the K key and the F5 Key.
I also use weather generator at the start of a patrol so I at least get good weather for a while.
I find all three programs great additions to the game.

Have not heard of a weather generator. Where do you get it and is it a stand alone program like SH3 Generator?

I take it that the weather generator is a stand alone like sh3 generator, but I must use it BEFORE I begin my new patrol using SH3 Commander?
Oh, I just read the readme file and I know what to do now.

robj250,
JScones is trying to include this mod in the new SH3CMDR (v2.6) due out soon.

Just to back up what Irish1958 said: SH3 Commander allows you too...well, you're using it so you know. SH3 Generator just takes the game files and lets you open your safe and take out secret intelligence information regarding possible enemy ship dispositions, and installs the current standing orders to your logbook. You can control how new and how accurate the intel is, and how much you get each time you run it. It has nothing to do with Commander and is a whole lot of fun. I also highly recommend it.
