Picked Up Victory At Sea For 5 Bucks
 

At Wal-Mart in the bargain bin. I had seen this years and years ago on TV as weekly installments.

Lots of neat sub clips and that got me to thinking. These are indeed just clips from obviously much longer films. So where are these films? Were they destroyed or are they still out there just waiting for someone to remaster and release to all us WWII buffs? Maybe some commercial concern like "The Military Channel" could do something with them if enough of us expressed interest.

No, actually I got a copy from Wally World last December. It's cool. As to the longer clips, I wouldn't be surprised if they no longer exist. Considering the way the government treats old ships and planes, they probably took what they wanted and chucked the rest.

Have you ever seen World At War? 26 hours of footage all neatly organized and packaged so any idiot could understand what's going on.

I think we're thinking of two different World At Wars. The one I'm referring to was made in 1974 and Narrated by Laurence Olivier.

Walter Cronkite narrated a series called "
Twentieth Century" back in the 50's and 60's. ( showing my age) Much of the series covered WWII.

World at War is the best documentary series about the Second World War. Won an Emmy for best documentary back then. I bought the VHS version via TV about twenty years ago. All said and done, just under $1000.00. And it's now on DVD for $149.00:damn: . Oh well, I'm still watching those VHS tapes today. I will have to upgrade to DVD:up: . Bought Victory at Sea on DVD fall for $24.00. Again TV. And the cover shows modern day ships:damn: . Then I get a copy for Christmas from my mom:damn: . I did get a copy of Das Boot (directors cut) at Amazon a few weeks ago for I think $35.00:up: . Also on my shopping list is Band of Brothers. Coverting from VHS to DVD is sure going to take awhile.

hehe Victory at Sea is still in the bargain bin at Walmart. It was among the "2 for $11" DVDs, but I found a bunch of films in there I wanted. $5.50 for an excellent documentary series is hard to beat.

The World at War was compiled in 1974 and was narrated from Episode 1 to Episode 26 by Sir Lawrence Olivier.

Mr. Cronkite had nothing to do with this series. Wonderful series, was worth buying again on DVD athough I already had the set on VHS.

Victory at Sea I have on VHS, will have to check Wal Mart, but they are across town.
