Noise versus Speed

Is the current noise level of your platform determined by the Ordered speed or the actual speed. The quesiton arises when on surface transits (like a sub leaving point). If I order all ahead flank, the sub will achieve a 20knot surface speed. But is the noise level the the game will assign given based on the 20knot surface speed or the flank speed order?

:hmm:

Ordered Speed + Cavitiation (+10)

LuftWolf can you please give some values for different speeds in order to quantificate the +10 given by cavitation? (i.e. tactical speed values)

For LWAMI, please see the charts provided with the download for the unique sound vs. speed curves for each playable submarine. In general, the sound vs. speed curves range from +15 (at maxspeed) for SSBN's and quiet diesels, to 20+ for modern nukes, to 25+ for old submarines.

In the stock game, all nuke subs have a 10+ at flank and all diesels have a 5+ at flank speed. So, for example, in the stock game, a standard kilo will make 60 PSL at 0 kts, 65 PSL at 17kts, and 75 PSL at flank speed and cavitating. There is not much of a penalty to going fast in the stock game if you are not cavitating.
